Public Transit in Oslo: E-buses of Unibuss charge at ABB E-mobility chargers.

Unibuss Achieves 1,400 Daily Zero-Emission Bus Trips with ABB E-mobility Infrastructure Expansion

Press Release
Jun 30, 2025

OSLO, Norway – June 30, 2025 – Unibuss has successfully commissioned 20 additional ABB E-mobility high-power chargers, bringing its electric bus charging infrastructure to a total of 70 units. This network now supports 1,400 daily trips, an essential part of Unibuss’s public transport services, which serve more than 70 million passengers annually across Oslo and the surrounding region. The expansion advances Oslo's goal to achieve completely emission-free public transportation by 2028.

The infrastructure’s performance was tested under harsh winter conditions. Unibuss reported 99.9% operational regularity during the 2024/25 winter season, highlighting the viability of electric bus operations even in Nordic climates.

Building on their operational success, Unibuss has formalized its service relationship with ABB E-mobility through a comprehensive Service Level Agreement. The SLA provides Unibuss with 24/7 re-mote monitoring, and on-site support for its electric charging infrastructure – critical to effectively run system-critical public transport.

"Public transport is the backbone of our cities and communities, and ensuring its reliable operation is essential. This is why we provide our customers with end-to-end solutions that integrate hardware, software, and services for a seamless and efficient charging experience – even in harsh conditions. We’re proud to contribute to Unibuss’s electrification journey – helping make everyday transport cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable for thousands of passengers. Together, we’re not just deploying hardware, but reducing emissions trip by trip. We look forward to expanding this strong partnership,” said Bruno Bourguet, President EMEA and Channel at ABB E-mobility.

"When you're responsible for getting people to work, school, and home every day across our entire network of over 70 million annual passengers, you need confidence in every part of your infrastructure," explained Glenn Gaalaas, Head of Fleet & Infrastructure from Uni-buss. "The SLA gives us that confidence for our electric operations through proactive sup-port and immediate response capabilities."

Currently, more than 90% of Unibuss’ fleet in Oslo, and 60% of the total fleet is fully electric, significantly reducing emissions. By 2030, additional depots are set to be electrified to further advancing the city’s transition to sustainable public transport.
