Zeem Solutions: A Key Enabler for the Transition to Heavy-Duty EV Fleets
Zeem Solutions is helping reshape the future of fleet transportation by making electrification accessible, scalable, and reliable. As a leading provider of charging infrastructure for fleets, Zeem’s innovative and shared charging model – powered by ABB E-mobility technology – is enabling operators of all sizes to transition to electric vehicles without the challenges of building and maintaining their own infrastructure.
At the flagship LAX Charging Depot in Los Angeles – one of the nation’s busiest transportation hubs – Zeem is demonstrating how dependable charging solutions with high-throughput can support a mix of light, medium, and heavy-duty fleets, and dispense more than three-quarters of a million kilowatt hours in a single month.
Zeem’s LAX Site Operations
The LAX site is powered by more than 75 ABB E-mobility fast chargers and is energized by a 7.5 MW interconnection. The depot utilizes a shared-charging business model, controlling charger access to maximize utilization and throughput.
Providing access to reliable charging lowers the barrier to electrification for smaller fleet operators without the resources to build their own charging infrastructure. Today, fleets ranging from light-duty rideshare vehicles to heavy-duty Class 8 tractor trailers use Zeem’s LAX Depot, with light-duty vehicles driving the utilization to provide the needed runway for operators to begin transitioning to electrified heavy-duty vehicles. The result is more than 60,000 charging sessions within the first three quarters of 2025 and more than 2.4M kWh of power delivered. The utilization rate at Zeem’s LAX facility is nearly 50% higher than the US average for public charging stations in 2025.
Uptime Powered by Partnership
Zeem’s partnership with ABB E-mobility is a critical driver of the LAX site’s high performance. To achieve the highest uptime and throughput, ABB E-mobility delivers industry-leading support and service, including 24/7 remote charger monitoring and diagnostics, spare parts management, and routine charger maintenance. Zeem depot coordinators are trained and certified to service ABB E-mobility chargers, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with ABB E-mobility team members to proactively address potential issues before they reach the end user.
In a demanding high-utilization, low-margin fleet environment, ensuring every plug-in results in a successful charging session is how Zeem delivers value for its customers. For the fleet operators Zeem serves, charging solutions that operate when needed ensures drivers arrive at the depot ahead of their shift to a fully charged vehicle, ready for service.
What’s Next
As a fleet charging pioneer, Zeem continues to innovate. The LAX site provides both the charging and market signals needed for heavy-duty operators to confidently begin electrifying their fleets.
In Long Beach, Zeem is helping to electrify the drayage vehicles that move cargo from ships with a site powered by ABB E-mobility A400 chargers. The Long Beach Depot is fully constructed and is awaiting utility energization to become operational. Charging data from the LAX depot shows medium and heavy-duty represent just one-fifth of vehicles charged, but the average amount of energy dispensed to MHD vehicles is nearly five times greater than that for light-duty vehicles. As fleets electrify larger vehicles, ultra-high-powered charging will be critical to meet operational requirements and tight scheduling.
Zeem is also expanding its port footprint with a charging depot near Seattle’s Seattle Tacoma International Airport, between the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
Why Electrification Matters
Electrifying ports delivers for the surrounding communities. A recent study found the reductions in emissions generated by electrifying operations at the Port of Seattle and the Port of New York/New Jersey could deliver a public health benefit of $27 million and $150 million, respectively. Throughout 2025, the electric vehicles powered by Zeem’s state-of-the-art LAX facility have saved nearly 944,000kg of Co2 emissions.
