Important Customer Notification
OCPP 1.5 End-of-Life and Cybersecurity Compliance Update
As previously communicated in our lifecycle announcement issued on 13th September 2023, our OCPP 1.5 API transitioned from Active to Classic status as of 1st October 2023. We are now approaching the end of the Classic lifecycle phase, meaning that certain products you are operating that contain the OCPP 1.5 functionality will move to the Obsolete lifecycle phase, which has implications for your charging operations.
This means that effective October 1, 2025, all OCPP 1.5 services will be permanently discontinued.
Critical Business Impact: While affected chargers can continue basic charging operations, payment processing functionality will cease when OCPP 1.5 services are discontinued, potentially disrupting your revenue streams.
Understand your options
There are three options to choose from when it comes to the impacted chargers:
Option 1: New Generation Charger Purchase*
Description: Replace with current-generation chargers (C50, A200, HVC360)
Benefits: Full compliance, latest features, continued ABB support
Best for: Long-term operational security and feature access
Option 2: Charger Component Upgrade/On-site Software Update*
Description: Upgrade existing charger boards to OCPP 1.6 compliant boards or on-site update to the newer remotely accessible OCPP 1.6 compliant software version
Availability: This option is not available for older chargers**
Important Note: Requires customer-managed OCPP server (unlike current ABB E-mobility-managed service)
Best for: Customers with technical capabilities for server management
Option 3: Service Disconnection
Description: Disconnection from ABB support/monitoring systems
Implication: Chargers remain operational for basic charging but lose payment processing capabilities. Please also be aware that after disconnection ABB E-mobility will no longer be able to remotely diagnose the chargers
Please note: In free vending mode, this option is working for locations with alternative payment methods or private use. However, this is not recommended (see below Safety and Compliance Notice)
*For pricing please reach out to your sales contact.
**Please check with your ABB E-mobility sales contact whether the components of your device are upgradable.
Implementation timing for Options 2 and 3 depends on the number of parameters and is subject to the alignment with ABB E-mobility
Critical Safety and Compliance Notice
We strongly advise against operating non-compliant charging infrastructure beyond October 2025. Continued operation of non-compliant chargers may:
o Expose your business to risks relating to mandatory cybersecurity regulations
o Expose your business to cybersecurity risks
o Impact your operational licenses and insurance coverage
o Potentially breach existing service agreements
