How the NEVI Program Works
The $ 5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program builds and expands the US network of fast chargers along the nation's highways. Funding can cover up to 80 % of the cost of chargers, installation, labor, and service level agreements.
What | States must abide by minimum standards and requirements, including Build America, Buy America rules. Installations must achieve 97 % uptime and be capable of charging four vehicles at 150 kW each.

When | NEVI funding is allocated evenly over a five-year period which began in fiscal year 2022. Individual states have discretion on when they open their bids for NEVI sites, with some states already on their second round of bids and some states yet to begin. We expect NEVI funding to be spent well past the initial 5 year period.

Where | The EV charging stations must be located within one mile of an alternative fueling corridor highway (AFC) and available to the public 24 hours a day. Once AFCs are fully developed, states can expand their electrification efforts to other parts of the state.
