Program overview

The $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program is expanding the buildout of fast-charging networks along U.S. highways. Designed to support long-distance EV travel and reduce range anxiety, NEVI funding can cover up to 80% of the total project cost, including:

• Charger hardware

• Installation and construction

• Labor and commissioning

• Service level agreements and maintenance

Unlock NEVI Funding

To qualify for NEVI funding, charging sites must meet a defined set of federal standards. As of 2025, these include:

Power: Minimum of 4x 150 kW DC fast chargers per site, capable of simultaneous charging

Connectors: Must support CCS1; NACS compatibility is optional but increasingly expected

BABA-compliance: At least 55% U.S.-sourced components and final assembly in the U.S.

Uptime: 97% operational uptime with remote monitoring and diagnostics

Interoperability: Must support OCPP and be networked for data sharing

Payments: Must allow contactless payment without requiring a subscription

Metering: Must comply with NIST Handbook 44 for accuracy and transparency
